[ Roxas had a lot of things on his mind, especially after the trial, but as he was walking into the hall, heading back to his room, it wasn't difficult to miss a familiar figure. As usual, Roxas' curiosity increased tenfold whenever something happened to involve certain people, so he began to come closer, and noticed that...things didn't look right.
Vanitas had his Keyblade at the ready for one, and that's all he needed to see when he also noticed he was nearby Flat's room. ]
Hey, whatever you're thinking of doing right now? Don't.
[Boy, don't they all have enough things on their minds that the things are going to start falling off any second, this is one of those times Blue Angel honestly wishes her AI were good for something besides narrating duels. Better storage, brainstorming, something.
When she's not playing Duel Monsters to cope with the world right now, it's really inconvenient. She's a little distracted with trying to sort through the aftermath of everything and at this point she's making a beeline for Flat's room. She only slows when she realizes that it isn't just staff there.]
[ Roxas then moves quickly, trying to make it so he'd be basically in the way of the door, because yeah that's gotten him looking kind of anxious. Even if some part of him expected it'd be a situation like this given Vanitas' whole...expression as well. ]
No! You can't just do that. I know that we can't just play along for the entirety of all of this, but this isn't the answer!
[ His hands clench into tight fists, feeling the anxiety and other emotions run through him. ]
Besides, there's no way they will let you off easy for this.
[ And then, his gaze meets Aoi's because even though he was saying these things, he did hear her. He's also sure she just heard what they just said here, and maybe he's hoping she can help too. ]
[And just like that, she has her whip out and steps forward, gaze unwavering and holding Vanitas'.]
No, we can't win this by playing along with their rules or roles. You know I agree with that.
[The whip glows, seeming to sizzle a little in the shadows of the hallway. It's pretty bright. She only keeps it ready, though, not brandishing it yet. As the trial itself has shown, she's not a fighter; just someone with a whip who knows how to use it if she has to.
She tilts her head a little, inspecting the Keyblade. Keeping her position close to Roxas so they can form a decent wall.]
But you saw how powerful he was at the trial, right? You tried that against the Jorogumo, too. I'm pretty sure you've seen how much good it did. Why now?
[ His expression is steady in how it holds firmly to his face, even in spite of... almost everything they say.
"Why now?"
... It's in that moment, something wavers. It's discreet, barely noticeable, but it's clear even he's considering that question. And not liking the answer that comes to mind.
Just like that, he's glancing from her to Roxas... to the side. He gives a bitter kind of smirk. There's something unsettling in it as his hand tightens fiercely around the Keyblade.
And suddenly he moves to try pushing past them... ]
[ ...Roxas is admittedly kind of tiny but also he'll move to step back and cover some of the door with his body with a quickness - he's hoping she can get the rest, but yeah right after, his eyes move back over to meet Vanitas'. He didn't anticipate this being easy but at least Aoi was here. ]
...I don't want to lose you too, Vanitas.
[ For what it's worth, his voice comes out strong when inside right now, Roxas can only feel his heart tremble as other words are on the tip of his tongue, while their hopes rest on what happens tonight and tomorrow morning. But those ones don't follow yet. ]
[Blue Angel’s not exactly a giant either, but she’s already started moving when Vanitas does — his expressions and movements are telegraphing everything, and she doesn’t have to be all that speedy to know what she needs to do. She’s got the door, and her whip is up now, though she holds it in front of herself defensively — or perhaps to strengthen the blockade they’re making together.
Her eyes move between Roxas and Vanitas, quietly absorbing the rapport and the determination in Roxas’ voice. There’s no conflict inside her when it comes to this: she doesn’t know how exactly they’ll deal with the Barghest tomorrow, but she knows it’s their right to try, as a group. For what they’ve sacrificed and for what they’ve still yet to sacrifice. Her principal hang up is not with Vanitas.
So she stays quiet, letting Roxas do the talking. She’s said what she has, for now. But she’ll meet Vanitas’ gaze still, should she catch it, all steely resolve. He’s not getting past them.]
[ Of course they're moving to stop him. Of course they are...
Vanitas' expression tenses, his eyes narrowing fiercely at them. A quiet sound of frustration slips out as he does try to push past, at first. Until he hears something about... losing him? That has his movements coming to a pause as he stares at Roxas for a moment, confusion and conflict ghosting over his face...
His jawline tightens, a slow exhale easing out as he abruptly takes a step back. He looks from Roxas, to Aoi... to the side. He remains quiet as he turns to just... slowly walk away. ]
[ Roxas was still tense, still not knowing what was going to happen because of just ... everything tonight was and he really wasn't in the mood to find out how fast things could go to shit (again) just because he wasn't expecting it.
Instead, however, he watches Vanitas' reactions and the vacillation going on in his face, and then he ends up doing all of that, which gets Roxas to release a sigh of relief.
He's pretty sure Vanitas also didn't expect him to say what he did but ... it came from the heart. ]
See you later, Vanitas. Okay?
[ Then he'll turn to Aoi, looking kind of thankful. Tired, but thankful. ]
[She doesn't lower her whip, but something relaxes in her expression even as she scans Vanitas' as he turns away. He might be Mr. Edgy, but he's still liable to be read when he's surprised. If nothing else, he's walking away; if nothing else, he's done some form of listening to what Roxas has said.
So once she turns to Roxas, she just nods.]
I just happened to be here. I guess... this is something that's going to happen if we catch a monster, from now on.
[This is the first time they've caught one, after all. She should have expected these sorts of confrontations, especially with this group and their tendency to smack each other around, never mind an actual enemy.]
week 2, post-trial, pre-execution
Vanitas had his Keyblade at the ready for one, and that's all he needed to see when he also noticed he was nearby Flat's room. ]

[ Time to close a little distance now. ]

He manages to keep a smirk on his lips, though there's something a little unstable there. ]
Or what? It's obvious, isn't it? There's no chance of winning this thing just by playing along. Just stay out of it.
[ ..... he's readying the Keyblade btw ]
